More Than a Meal
The mission of Meals on Wheels Orange County NC is to nourish and enrich the lives of older adults through meal delivery and meaningful personal connections. We understand that our recipients may need more than a hot meal and a friendly conversation, so we offer additional programs and services that support their independence, health, and overall well-being.
Kibble & Care
Established with a Meals on Wheels America grant in 2021, this companion pet care program helps recipients care for their pets by providing supplemental pet food and discounted basic veterinary services. Click here to learn more about our pet program and services.
Incontinence Supplies
Beginning in July 2024, our partnership with The Diaper Bank of North Carolina allows us to distribute incontinence supplies to recipients on a monthly basis.
Call Connection
Volunteers speak with recipients by phone each week to reduce social isolation and loneliness, fostering meaningful personal connections.
Durable Medical Equipment Loan Program
Requests for assistive devices such as walkers, rollators, raised toilet seats, and bath chairs are forwarded to the Orange County Department on Aging for processing and fulfillment.
NCMedAssist
Over-the-Counter Medications Homebound clients can access over-the-counter medications through NCMedAssist community events. MOWOCNC supports this program by providing applications, collecting completed forms, and delivering medications directly to recipients.
In-Home Vaccinations
Vaccine Ambassadors & Independent Pharmacies bring vaccines directly to the homes of individuals who face barriers to traditional healthcare. MOWOCNC shares program information and collects interest forms, which are then handled by the independent pharmacy team to schedule visits.
Community Referrals
We connect recipients with the Orange County Department on Aging and other community agencies for services such as transportation, home repair, home safety assessments, smoke detector checks and installation, and EBT/SNAP access at farmers markets.
Smile Squad
Throughout the year MOWOCNC partners and volunteers strive to bring moments of joy and connection to MOWOCNC recipients through the weekly delivery of handmade cards, distribution of flower bouquets in spring and summer and holiday greenery arrangements around Thanksgiving, home-baked desserts with every meal delivery, birthday cards, holiday cards, roses on Valentine's Day, and holiday gifts in December, to name a few.
